Readesign
“Readesign” is a conversational platform around the role of critical design practices in shaping how we read and experience text, information, interfaces, and exhibitions as public spaces. Leading design practitioners and critics, cultural theoreticians and thinkers, publishers, and writers explore visual projects, concepts, processual habits, and methodologies around the fundamental transformations in producing, reading, and perceiving information.
The design of reading and seeing
“Readesign” explores the foundational role of text, information, graphics, and interface design in shaping perceptions, literacy, and our experience of ‘reading’ the world. It investigates the mediatization of contemporary writing as more language becomes public than ever before and languages are increasingly understood as technologies. At the same time, it reflects on the politics of publishing, media dissemination, distribution, and circulation in the digital age to analyze the interconnections between communication design, systems of signification, and media as technical and expressive objects. The platform documents cultural differences, co-evolutions, generational attitudes, and critical ideas that reshape our communication concepts. It supports a new generation of designers and readers to discover new inspirations, challenge assumptions, extract insights, generate ideas, and explore how design and reading reflect on evolutionary sociological, environmental, and technological circumstances. “Readesign” launches September 2023
